Kay Arne Stenshjemmet (born August 9, 1953 in Lillestrøm , Skedsmo , Akershus ) is a former Norwegian speed skater .

Stenshjemmet celebrated its first international success in 1973 by winning the bronze medal at the Junior World Championship . His breakthrough among seniors came in 1976 with the European title in the all- around competition. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck that same year , he competed over 500 meters, 1000 meters and 1500 meters. He reached places 21, 22 and 11. In the following years Stenshjemmet won the silver medal twice at the European Championships in 1977 and 1979 . He finished the all-around world championship in 1979 with the bronze medal in the all-around event. In the following year Stenshjemmet was able to win the European title in the all- around again . In addition, he won the silver medals over 1500 meters and 5000 meters at the Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid . In 1981 he was also able to achieve silver at the all- around world championship and secured bronze at the all- around European championship .

Stenshjemmet was also five times Norwegian champion, four times in the all-around (1976, 1977, 1978, 1981) and 1976 in the sprint.
