List of Junior World Speed Skating Championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of speed skating junior world championships shows all winners as well as the second and third places at the world championships for juniors in all-around competitions. Since 1972, for the juniors and since 1973 for the juniors, all-around world championships have been organized by the International Skating Union (ISU).

In a narrower sense, the junior world championship in speed skating , in which the athletes must not have reached a certain age, is a U19 championship. For example, for the 2008/09 season (JWM 2009) the following applies: Anyone who has not reached the age of 19 by June 30, 2009 will be assigned to the U19 age group and should start. There is no lower limit. It is only limited by the performance of the athletes, as only the five best juniors of a country are allowed to enter.

competition

The all-around junior world championship involves four distances each. The juniors run 500, 1000, 1500 and 3000 meters (mini four-way fight) and the juniors 500, 1500, 3000 and 5000 meters (little four-way fight). Each individual distance run is calculated down to 500 meters in seconds and added up. The sum gives the total number of points. The champion is whoever has achieved the lowest total number of points after four courses.

The individual route in the team run since 2002 is a team run by three juniors over 6 laps and three juniors over eight laps. The elapsed time (the time of the third runner) indicates the final placement. A preliminary round has been taking place since 2007. Here the four fastest teams qualify for the final. A maximum of four athletes from one country may be entered with the preliminary and final runs.

From 2009, further individual route decisions are part of the World Cup, some of which are integrated into the all-around event. The routes run in four-way combat are also runs of the individual distance championships. Another run is planned for the discipline of 2 * 500 meters. The juniors run the 1000 meters, which are not part of the small four-way competition, exclusively as an individual distance decision.
