Andrea Giovannini (born August 27, 1993 in Trento ) is an Italian speed skater .

Career

Giovannini had his first international success at the Junior World Championships 2013 in Klobenstein . There he won bronze in four-way competitions, silver over 5000 m and gold in all-round competitions. He made his debut in the Speed ​​Skating World Cup in Erfurt in March 2013 , where he finished 13th in the B World Cup over 1500 m. He achieved his first top ten placements in the A World Cup singles in the 2013/14 season with two eighth places in Inzell and in Heerenveen . In December 2013 he became Italian champion in four-way combat and the following month he came 14th at the 2014 European all- around championship in Hamar . At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he came in 17th place over 5000 m and at the 2014 World Championships in Heerenveen, 17th place. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season he won his first World Cup victory in the mass start in Seoul . This was followed by further top ten results in the mass start and at the end of the season 12th place in the overall world cup and third place in the mass start world cup. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Giovannini finished third in the team pursuit in Calgary . In the further course of the season he came in the A-World Cup seven times in the top ten and at the end of the season reached tenth place in the overall World Cup over 5000/10000 m. In December 2015 he became the Italian four-way champion. The following month he finished fifth at the European all- around championship in Minsk in 2016 . At the all- around world championship in 2016 in Berlin , he finished sixth and at the individual distance world championships in 2016 in Kolomna he achieved tenth place over 5000 m and fourth place in the team pursuit. In the 2016/17 season he won the mass start in Astana and took third place in the team pursuit in Heerenveen . At the 2017 World Individual Distance Championships in Gangwon , he finished 20th in the mass start, 12th in the 5000m and sixth in the team pursuit. At the all-around world championship in Hamar in early March 2017 , he finished sixth. He finished the season in tenth place in the overall world cup over 5000/10000 m and in second place in the mass start world cup. In the following season he reached two second places in the team pursuit and a victory in the mass start in Calgary, eighth place in the overall world cup over 5000/10000 m and second place in the mass start world cup. At the European Championships in Kolomna in January 2018, he won the silver medal in the mass start. He also achieved 13th place over 5000 m and fifth place in the team pursuit. His best placings at the highlight of the season, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , were 12th in the mass start and sixth in the team pursuit. At the all- around world championship 2018 in Amsterdam he came in 11th place.

At the beginning of the 2018/19 season Giovannini clinched his fourth World Cup victory in the mass start in Obihiro . At the European all-around championship in January 2019 in Klobenstein , he was sixth in the four-way battle. At the individual distance world championships in Inzell in 2019 he finished 13th over 5000 m, sixth place in the team pursuit and fourth place in the mass start. At the beginning of March 2019, he finished 14th at the 2019 All Around World Championship in Calgary . He finished the season in the overall World Cup 5000/10000 m and in the Mass Start World Cup in tenth place.

Giovannini was five times Italian champion in the four-way competition (2014, 2016-2019) and twice in the mass start (2017, 2019).
