Since 2010/11 he has been training in André Unterdörfel's all-around training group in Berlin. At the junior all-around world championships in 2003 in Kushiro , he was runner- up behind Remco Olde Heuvel from the Netherlands . He finished fifth with the team. He was German junior champion six times.

He made his debut in the World Cup in November 2004 in Hamar . The best place for the long and medium distance specialist was a twelfth place over 5000 meters in November 2005 in Salt Lake City . Doping allegation 2019

In April 2019, articles appeared in the media in which Lehmann was directly connected to the blood doping affair of the winter of 2018/19 involving the German sports medicine specialist Mark Schmidt . On May 10, the National Anti-Doping Agency Germany officially confirmed Lehmann's name for the first time as being related to the doping affair. In addition, disciplinary proceedings under sports law were initiated before the German Sports Arbitration Court for possible violations of anti-doping guidelines against the 35-year-old. In August 2020, he was acquitted of these allegations in the first instance.

In November 2019, Lehmann-Dolle's employment as a trainer at the Olympic Training Center in Berlin was terminated. Robert Lehmann-Dolle has sued the labor court against the dismissal.
