Thomas Krol (born August 16, 1992 in Colmschate ) is a Dutch speed skater .

Career

Krol had his first international success at the 2011 Junior World Championships in Seinäjoki . There he won the gold medal in the all-around competition. The following year he won the bronze medal in the all- around and the silver medal over 1500 m and in four-way at the Junior World Championships in Obihiro . He made his debut in the Speed ​​Skating World Cup at the beginning of the 2012/13 season in Heerenveen and finished 18th over 1500 m. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season he achieved his first top ten placement in the World Cup with ninth place over 1500 m in Obihiro. A third place over 1500 m followed in Berlin and at the end of the season eighth place in the overall World Cup over 1500 m. At the Dutch championships in Heerenveen in 2015 he was third and the following year second in the 1500 m. In the 2015/16 season he came in 12 World Cup starts, ten times in the top ten. He achieved third place over 1000 m in Stavanger and at the end of the season he finished tenth in the overall World Cup over 1000 m and seventh place in the overall World Cup over 1500 m. At the individual distance world championships in Kolomna in 2016 , he won the bronze medal over 1500 m. In the 2017/18 season he came third in the 1500 m World Cup twice and once in the 1000 m World Cup, thus reaching seventh place in the overall World Cup, fifth place in the 1000 m World Cup and third place in the 1500 m World Cup. At the European Championships in Kolomna in 2018 , he won the silver medal over 1500 m. He was also fourth there over 1000 m.

After third place in the over 1000 m in Obihiro and third place over 1000 m and over 1500 m in Tomakomai at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Krol won his first World Cup victory in Heerenveen over 1500 m. At the all-around European championship in January 2019 in Klobenstein , he achieved 16th place in the sprint all-around event. At the individual distance world championships in 2019 in Inzell , he won the silver medal over 1000 m and the gold medal over 1500 m. At the World Cup finals in Salt Lake City in March 2019 , he finished second in the 1000 m and 1500 m respectively and finally achieved fifth place in the overall World Cup over 1500 m and fourth place in the overall World Cup over 1000 m.
