Denis Igorewitsch Juskow ( Russian Денис Игоревич Юсков , internationally known as Denis Yuskov ; born October 11, 1989 in Moscow , USSR ) is a Russian speed skater .

Career

Juskow has been taking part in international competitions since 2006. First he started at the Junior World Championships, but without achieving a significant placement. Juskow made his World Cup debut in November 2006 in Moscow . He achieved 18th place over 1500 m in group B. In 2008, Yuskov's career was interrupted for several years by a positive doping ban for the use of marijuana. Initially, the ban was only four months, but it was then extended to four years. At the beginning of the 2011/12 World Cup season, Juskow made his comeback in international competitions. In February 2012 he won his first World Cup victory in the team pursuit in Hamar . At the individual distance world championships in Heerenveen in 2012 , he won the bronze medal in the team pursuit. In the individual races there he was seventh over 5000 m and sixth over 1500 m.

At the 2012/13 World Cup in Inzell , Juskow achieved his first World Cup victory in an individual discipline over the 1500 meter course. He also took third and second place in the team pursuit in Heerenveen . In February 2013 he ran in the all- around world championship in Hamar on the tenth place. At the 2013 World Championships in Sochi , Juskow surprisingly wins the gold medal over 1500 m. This was the first World Cup gold for Russia over this distance. After the World Cup, he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Master of Sport in Russia . In the 2013/14 season he won the 1500 m in Astana and Heerenveen. In Berlin he took third place and at the end of the season he finished second in the overall World Cup over 1500 m. At the season highlight, the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he came in 17th place over 1000 m, sixth place over 5000 m and in the team pursuit and fourth place over 1500 m. In March 2014 he won the bronze medal at the all- around world championship in Heerenveen. In the following year he won the World Cup in Hamar over 1500 m and won the gold medal over 1500 m again at the individual distance world championships in Heerenveen. He won the silver medal at the 2015 all- around world championships in Calgary and the bronze medal at the 2015 European all- around championships in Chelyabinsk .

In the 2015/16 season, Juskow won four World Cup victories over 1500 m. He also achieved two third and two second places over 1000 m and one second place over 1500 m. He won the overall world cup over 1500 m for the first time. In the overall world cup over 1000 m he ran in fifth place and in the overall world cup in fourth place. At the highlight of the season, the 2016 World Single Distance Championships in Kolomna , he became world champion over 1500 m for the third time in a row. After finishing second over 1500 m in Harbin at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, he won the 1500 m in Astana and finished second over 1500 m in Heerenveen and Berlin. He achieved sixth place in the overall World Cup and second place in the overall World Cup over 1500 m. At the 2017 World Individual Distance Championships in Gangwon , he won the silver medal in the 1500 m. In the 2017/18 season he triumphed in the World Cup four times over 1500 m and once over 1000 m. He also achieved third place over 1000 m in Erfurt and second place over 1500 m in Minsk and at the end of the season he reached fourth place in the overall world cup over 1000 m, second place in the overall world cup and first place in the overall world cup over 1500 m. At the 2018 European Championships in Kolomna, he won the silver medal over 1000 m and the gold medal in the team sprint and over 1500 m. In the following season he won the overall world cup over 1500 m for the third time with three wins and one third place. He was also third in Heerenveen over 1000 m and achieved ninth place in the overall World Cup over 1000 m. At the individual distance world championships in Inzell in 2019 , he ran over 1500 m to the bronze medal.

At Russian championships Juskow won seven times over 1500 m (2013-2019), twice over 1000 m (2014, 2017) and 5000 m (2014, 2015) and once over 10,000 m (2012).
