Vitaly Wassiljewitsch Margelow

Vitaly Wassiljewitsch Margelow ( Russian Виталий Васильевич Маргелов ; born December 1, 1941 in Molotow ) is a Russian politician and member of the secret service. He is a member of the State Duma of the Federation Assembly of the Russian Federation .

Career

He was born in Molotov in 1941, the son of General Vasily Margelov , commander of the airborne troops of the USSR. After graduating from school in Taganrog in 1958 , he attended the law faculty of Lomonosov University in Moscow, where he graduated in 1963 as a lawyer.

After graduating, he received a recommendation for work in the Committee for State Security of the USSR (KGB). Since 1965 he worked for the Soviet secret service. In the 1980s he worked there as the head of the 5th department of the First Headquarters of the KGB (France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Benelux, Greece, Yugoslavia, Albania, Romania). After the political change he acted as deputy director of the foreign intelligence service for management matters from 1997 to 2003.

He began his political career in 2003. Since then he has been a member of the State Duma (“ United Russia ” faction ). He acts as deputy chairman of the committee for security and is also a member of the control committee for the federal budget for defense and state security. His military rank has been Colonel General since 2001 and Colonel General of the Reserve since 2003.

Witali Margelow is married and has four sons.
