Jonathan Kuck (born March 14, 1990 in Urbana , Illinois ) is an American speed skater who specializes in long distances. He started speed skating at the age of ten .

As a 20-year-old, Kuck won his first World Championship medal at the 2010 World Championship in Heerenveen . With only 0.64 points behind the winner Sven Kramer , he barely missed a huge sensation.

Kuck took part in the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. In the team pursuit, he won the silver medal together with Chad Hedrick and Brian Hansen .

At his first individual distance World Championships in 2011 in Inzell , Kuck won the team pursuit together with Brian Hansen and Trevor Marsicano .

At the 2013 World Championships in Sochi , Kuck was involved in a collision with fellow favorite Kjeld Nuis during the 1500 meter race . After a false start, Nuis was on the way back to the start when he collided head-on with the Kuck running on the inside lane.

Kuck is studying physics at the University of Illinois .
