Maaike Christiane Head (* 11. September 1983 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch lightweight - rower and Olympic champion.

Career

Maaike Head only started rowing in 2007. At the 2009 World Championships she competed with Rianne Sigmond in the lightweight double scull and finished ninth. In 2010 the two rowed to ninth place at the European championships and thirteenth place at the world championships . After a ninth place at the 2011 World Championships , they qualified for the Olympic Regatta in Lucerne in May 2012 with a second place , and then reached eighth place in Eton.

At the 2013 World Championships , Maaike Head competed in two boat classes: With Elisabeth Woerner , she achieved sixth place in the lightweight double scull; the lightweight quadruple sculls with Mirte Kraaijkamp , Maaike Head, Rianne Sigmond and Marie-Anne Frenken won the title. Woerner and Head also competed together at the 2014 European Championships and finished in fifth place. Head and Paulis started the 2016 Olympic season with a victory at the 2016 European Championships . After Paulis and Head were able to qualify for the Olympic Games in Lucerne, they won the World Cup regatta in Poznan. The two Dutch women crowned the 2016 season by winning the gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games . After that, Head's international career ended.
