Katherine Copeland

Katherine Sarah "Kat" Copeland , MBE (born December 1, 1990 in Ashington , Northumberland ) is a British rower and 2012 Olympic champion in lightweight double sculls .

Copeland finished fourth in the lightweight single at the U23 World Championships in 2009 ; In 2010, she finished sixth in the lightweight double scull with Charlotte Burgess. In 2011, she won the U23 World Championships in the lightweight single and finished fifth in the adult class at the 2011 World Rowing Championships . In 2012 she and Sophie Hosking finished second at the Belgrade World Cup and fifth and fourth in the other two World Cup races. In the Olympic final in front of their home crowd, the two won in front of the boats from China and Greece. After a break in 2013, Copeland continued her career in 2014. Together with Imogen Walsh , she finished third in the lightweight double scull at the 2014 European Championships , and Walsh and Copeland took seventh place at the World Championships as winners of the B final. At the European Championships in 2015 , Copeland won together with Charlotte Taylor . The two British women also proved to be the strongest European crew at the 2015 World Championships , winning the silver medal behind New Zealanders Sophie MacKenzie and Julia Edward . At the 2016 Olympic Games , Copeland and Taylor were far from their previous year's form, with the two finishing in 14th place. At the European Championships 2017 she started together with Emily Craig and won the bronze medal.

At the end of 2012, Katherine Copeland was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire .
