Julia Edward (* 20th February 1991 in Rotorua ) is a New Zealand lightweight - rower . Together with Sophie MacKenzie, she won the world championship title in the lightweight double scull in 2014 and 2015 .

Together with Lucy Strack , Julia Edward won the silver medal in the lightweight double scull at the U23 World Championships in 2010 . At the 2010 World Championships in the adult class, the two New Zealanders took sixth place. In 2011 Edward rowed with Alyce Pulford to the bronze medal at the U-23 World Championships. At the 2012 Olympics , Julia Edward reached ninth place with Louise Ayling . Together with Lucy Strack, Julia Edward finished fifth at the 2013 World Championships .

Julia Edward started the 2014 season with Lucy Strack at the World Cup opener in Sydney. In the second and third World Cup regattas, Julia Edward won the lightweight single . Together with Sophie MacKenzie, she finally won the title at the World Championships in Amsterdam . In 2015, the two lost to the British Katherine Copeland and Charlotte Taylor at the World Cup in Varese . MacKenzie and Edward won the World Cup finals in Lucerne, while the British women only finished fourth. In the final of the 2015 World Championships, the two New Zealanders won the gold medal with just over a second ahead of the two Britons. In the following year, no medalist in the lightweight sculls at the 2015 World Championships reached the medal ranks at the 2016 Olympic Games , MacKenzie and Edward were fourth, more than four seconds behind bronze.
