Wendy Wiebe

Wendy Lynn Wiebe (* 6. June 1965 in St. Catharines , Ontario ) is a former Canadian lightweight - rower . She won three world titles.

Athletic career

The 1.72 m tall Wendy Wiebe from the St. Catharines Rowing Club took fourth place with the four-man without helmsman at the 1983 Junior World Championships . At the 1984 World Championships in Montreal, competitions in women's lightweight rowing were held as demonstration competitions. Wendy Wiebe won the bronze medal with eighth . Two years later she finished sixth at the 1986 World Championships with the lightweight four-man without helmsman , and fifth at the 1987 World Championships .

After a two-year break, Wendy Wiebe and Brenda Colby competed at the 1990 World Championships in lightweight double sculls and the two Canadians won the bronze medal. The following year, Wendy Wiebe finished fourth at the 1991 World Championships with the Canadian lightweight double scull . At the 1992 World Championships in Montreal, Wendy Wiebe won the bronze medal in the lightweight single .

From 1993, Wendy Wiebe formed a lightweight double scull with Colleen Miller . The two Canadians won the world title three times in a row: 1993 in Račice u Štětí , 1994 in Indianapolis and 1995 in Tampere . In 1996, lightweight rowing was on the Olympic program for the first time. At the Olympic regatta in Atlanta , Miller and Wiebe took seventh place as winners of the B final.
