Sophie Hosking

Sophie Hannah Marguerite Hosking , MBE (born January 25, 1986 in Edinburgh ) is a former British rower and 2012 Olympic champion in lightweight double sculls .

Her father David Hosking was world champion in 1980 with the British lightweight eighth. Sophie Hosking has been rowing since 1999, and at the 2003 Junior World Championships she took second place in the four without helmsman . In 2006 she won the silver medal in the lightweight single at the U23 World Championships , at the rowing world championships in 2006 she received the bronze medal in the lightweight four with helmswoman, the following year the four took second place and the boat came on the 2008 in Linz fourth rank. From 2009 to 2011 Hosking rowed with Hester Goodsell in the lightweight double sculls, at the 2009 World Championships the two took third place. Fifth place followed in 2010 , and in 2011 they both won bronze again.

In 2012, Hosking and Katherine Copeland finished second at the World Cup in Belgrade and fifth and fourth in the other two World Cup races. In the Olympic final in front of their home crowd, the two won in front of the boats from China and Greece.

Sophie Hosking started for the London Rowing Club , she is 1.65 m tall. At the end of 2012, Sophie Hosking was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire .
