Greta Martinelli (born December 3, 2000 in Como ) is an Italian rower . She became world champion in the lightweight quadruple sculls 2019 at the rowing world championships.
Career
In 2016, Greta Martinelli took part in the Junior World Rowing Championships for the first time . In Rotterdam , she competed in the Italian eighth at the 2016 Junior Rowing World Championships and the Italian boat qualified for the A final right in the run-up. In the A-final they took third place behind the boats from the Czech Republic and Germany and thus won the bronze medal for Italy. The following year she took part in the Italian quadruple sculls at the 2017 World Junior Championships in rowing in Trakai . In addition to her, the crew of the double fours included Sofia Tanghetti , Laura Pagnoncelli and Maria Ludovica Costa . Together they could only qualify for the B final, where they finished third, so that they finally finished the World Cup in ninth place.
In 2018 she took part in the Junior Rowing World Championships for the last time in her career . At the 2018 Junior World Rowing Championships in Račice u Štětí , she competed for Italy in a single and qualified for the A final. In the final she won the bronze medal behind the Romanian Tabita Maftei and the Argentine María Sol Ordás . The following year she took part in the U23 World Championships for the first time and went to the U23 World Rowing Championships 2019 , which were held near Sarasota and Bradenton , together with Giulia Mignemi , Silvia Crosio and Arianna Noseda in the lightweight double sculls Begin. Together they won the gold medal in the final run, almost seven seconds ahead of the German and American boats.
As newly crowned U23 world champions, they competed together at the 2019 World Rowing Championships , which were held in Linz . In the final, they were able to secure the world championship title with a two-second lead over the Chinese and German boats.
