Asja Maregotto (born January 9, 1997 in Camposampiero ) is an Italian rower . She won the gold medal in the lightweight quadruple sculls at the World Rowing Championships for Italy in 2017 .

Career

Asja Maregotto took part in the Junior World Championships in rowing for the first time in 2015 and started in Rio de Janeiro in a single. She was able to qualify for the A final and finished it in sixth place. A year later, she took part in the U23 rowing world championships in Rotterdam , where she formed the lightweight double sculls of Italy together with Paola Piazzolla , Allegra Francalacci and Giorgia Lo Bue . They qualified directly in advance for the A final, in which they secured victory and the gold medal in front of the Swiss and German boats.

A year later she took part again with Paola Piazzolla in the U23 rowing world championships . This time, alongside them, Valentina Rodini and Giovanna Schettino formed the lightweight double four of Italy. Once again they were able to qualify for the A-final directly in the run-up to the competition and in Plovdiv they secured the gold medal in front of the Dutch and German boats. For Asja Maregotto it was the second gold medal in a U23 rowing world championship. In the same year, the U23 world champions started together near Sarasota and Bradenton at the 2017 World Championships and qualified for the A final right in the run-up. There they beat the Australian and Chinese boats by almost two seconds and became world champions.
