Giorgia Lo Bue (born February 20, 1994 in Palermo ) is an Italian rower . In 2018, she and her younger sister Serena won the gold medal in the lightweight two-man without helmsman at the World Rowing Championships .

Career

She competed for the first time in 2011 with her younger sister Serena at the 2011 Junior World Championships in two-man without a helmsman. After the two had already won their preliminary run, they won the finals and thus the gold medal ahead of the German and Greek boats. The two were able to defend this gold medal in the following year at the Junior World Championships in 2012 . In the final they won in front of the boats from the USA and Greece. They also started in the eighth position in 2012 and secured the bronze medal in the final behind the Romanian and US American boats.

In 2014 she started for the first time in the U23 rowing world championships and was part of the lightweight quadruple scull with Serena Lo Bue , Valentina Rodini and Greta Masserano . After they were able to win their preliminary run, they had to admit defeat to the boat from Germany in the final and secured the silver medal. The following year she appeared again as part of the lightweight double foursome at the U23 rowing world championships. Compared to a year ago, Nicole Sala was part of the crew instead of Serena Lo Bue. In the final, the boat won the gold medal ahead of the boats from France and Germany.

In 2016 she started for the last time at the U23 rowing world championships and formed the lightweight quadruple scull together with Paola Piazzolla , Asja Maregotto and Allegra Francalacci . In the final, the quartet was able to secure the gold medal in front of the Swiss and German boats. In 2018 Giorgia Lo Bue started for the first time at the rowing world championships and formed the lightweight two-man with her sister Serena without a helmsman. In addition to them, only the American boat consisting of Jennifer Sager and Jillian Zieff competed in this class . In the final run, the two sisters were able to secure the gold medal with a lead of around 15 seconds.
