Serena Lo Bue (born August 4, 1995 in Palermo ) is an Italian rower . In 2018 she and her older sister Giorgia won the gold medal in the lightweight two-man without helmsman at the World Rowing Championships .

Career

She competed for the first time in 2011 together with her older sister Giorgia in a pair without a helmsman at the Junior World Championships 2011 in the British town of Eton . After the two had already won their preliminary run, they won the final and thus the gold medal in front of the boats from Germany and Greece. The two were able to defend this gold medal at the 2012 Junior World Championships in Plovdiv the following year . In the final they won in front of the boats from the USA and Greece. In addition, Serena Lo Bue and her sister also belonged to the Italian eighth and this was able to secure the bronze medal in the final behind the Romanian and the US American boat.

In 2013, Serena Lo Bue started without her sister at the Junior Rowing World Championships in the Lithuanian town of Trakai and was among the Italian eighth. After the Italian eighth qualified for the final via the repechage, the crew won the bronze medal behind the boats in Romania and Germany. In 2014 Serena belonged to Valentina Rodini , Greta Masserano and Giorgia Lo Bue in the lightweight quadruple scull that started at the U23 World Rowing Championships in Varese . After they won the prelim, they won silver in the final behind the German boat and ahead of the Swiss boat.

After 2015 and 2016 not in both U23 World Rowing Championships was allowed to start, she went in 2017 together with Caterna di Fonzo at the U23 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv in pairs without coxswain at the start and only qualified for the B- Finals, in which they took fourth place. In the end, they came in tenth place. In 2018, Serena Lo Bue started at the rowing world championships for the first time and formed the Italian lightweight two-man with her older sister Giorgia without a helmsman. In addition to them, only the American boat consisting of Jennifer Sager and Jillian Zieff competed in this class . The two sisters won the final run with a lead of around 15 seconds and secured the gold medal.
