Giovanna Schettino (born February 26, 1998 or April 7, 1998 in Castellammare di Stabia ) is an Italian rower . In 2017 she won the gold medal for Italy at the World Rowing Championships in the lightweight quadruple sculls.

Career

In 2014 Giovanna Schettino started for the first time in her career at the Junior World Championships . In Hamburg she started together with Sara Monte in a pair without a helmsman and they reached the A-final together. There they just missed the podium with fourth place behind the boats from Romania, Canada and the United States. A year later she started as part of the four-man team without a helmsman at the Junior Rowing World Championships in Rio de Janeiro . Next to her, the boat was formed by Nicoletta Bartalesi , Clara Guerra and Sarah Caberni . They reached the A final right in the preliminary run and just missed a medal with fifth place.

In 2016 Giovanna Schettino started in single at the Junior European Rowing Championships. She reached the A final in Trakai and just missed a medal with fifth place. In the same year she competed with Nicoletta Bartalesi at the Junior World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam in double sculls and they qualified for the A final. There they won the bronze medal behind the boats from the United States and Greece.

The following year, Giovanna Schettino competed for the first time in her career at both the U23 World Rowing Championships 2017 and the World Rowing Championships . At the U23 World Cup in Plovdiv, she formed the lightweight double sculls together with Paola Piazzolla , Asja Maregotto and Federica Cesarini . They qualified for the final and were U23 world champions ahead of the Swiss and German boaters. In this constellation, they took together for Italy near Sarasota and Bradenton at the World Rowing Championships in 2017 in part. They qualified for the A-final right in their prelims and prevailed there with almost two seconds ahead of the boat from Australia and the Chinese boat and won the world championship.

In 2018 she competed again in the U23 rowing world championships and was part of the Italian four-man team with a helmsman along with Claudia Destefani , Benedetta Faravelli , Laura Meriano and Diletta Diverio . They reached the A final in Poznan , where they won the silver medal behind the US boat and ahead of the Russian boat. A year later she took part near Sarasota and Bradenton in the U23 rowing world championships in the four-man without helmsman. Next to her, Arianna Bini , Elisa Mondelli and Allegra Francalacci formed the boat. They missed the qualification for the A-final and finished fourth in the B-final, so they finally finished the competition in tenth place.
