Laura Meriano (born December 17, 1999 in Brescia ) is an Italian rower .

Career

In 2016 she took part in the European Junior Championships in rowing in Trakai and was part of the crew of the Italian eight. They were able to qualify for the A final, where they missed a medal with fifth place. In the same year Laura Meriano also took part in the rowing junior world championships . In Rotterdam she was part of the crew of the four-man without helmsman at the 2016 Junior World Championships . Alongside her, Benedetta Faravelli , Ludovica Braglia and Lara Maule made up the boat's crew. Together they reached the A final and were able to secure the silver medal behind the German boat and in front of the US boat.

The following year she competed at the European Junior Rowing Championships 2017 in Krefeld, where she formed the four without a helmswoman together with Vittoria Tonoli , Sofia Tanghetti and Gaia Fabozzi . They were able to qualify for the B final and finished the race in second place, so that they finished eighth in the competition in the final accounts. Then she took part in the 2017 Junior Rowing World Championships in Trakai and formed the two-man team with Vittoria Tonoli without a helmsman. Together they reached the A-final and finished the race in fifth place.

In 2018 she took part in the U23 rowing world championships for the first time in her career . At the U23 World Championships in 2018 , she formed the foursome with helmswoman together with Giovanna Schettino , Claudia Destefani , Benedetta Faravelli and Diletta Diverio . After they finished second in the test race, they finished second in the finals behind the US boat and ahead of the boat from Russia. The following year, Laura Meriano took part in the 2019 European Rowing Championships in Lucerne , where she formed the four-man without helmsman together with Giorgia Pelacchi , Alessandra Patelli and Sara Bertolasi . Together they missed the qualification for the A final and could only take third place in the B final, so they finished the competition in ninth and last place.

After participating in the European Championships , Laura Meriano was allowed to compete in the Rowing World Cup for Italy. Together with Ludovica Serafini , Giorgia Pelacchi and Benedetta Faravelli , she formed the four without a helmsman. They failed to qualify for both the A and B finals and so they started in the C finals and took third and last place in the race. In the end, they finished the competition in 15th and last place. At the U23 World Championships 2019 , which were held near Sarasota and Bradenton , she was part of the crew of the four with helmswoman together with Claudia Destefani , Benedetta Faravelli and Diletta Diverio, as in the previous year. Compared to last year, Giovanna Schettino has been replaced by Giorgia Pelacchi. After they had already narrowly won the test race, they also won the actual final with more than two seconds ahead of the boats from France and Australia. Laura Meriano was nominated by the Italian Rowing Association as a reserve rider for the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Linz , where she was not used.
