Maria Aaltje "Marianne" Timmer (born October 3, 1974 in Sappemeer ) is a former Dutch speed skater .

When she first took part in the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano , she was double Olympic champion in the 1000 m and 1500 m. In Salt Lake City 2002 she could not win a medal. Over 1000 m she just missed the bronze medal . In 2006 in Turin , Marianne Timmer started over 500 m and 1000 m and became Olympic champion over 1000 m.

In 2001 she married her then coach, the 1000 m Olympic champion from 1976 , Peter Mueller , from whom she separated after two years. During the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , the former professional soccer player Henk Timmer proposed marriage to her via live TV .

On December 28, 2010 Timmer ended her sporting career.
