Christine Nesbitt (born May 17, 1985 in Melbourne ) is a Canadian speed skater and Olympic champion 2010 in Vancouver .

Career

Beginnings

In London , Ontario , Christine Nesbitt began speed skating as a short track runner at the age of twelve . There she also attended Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School . Nesbitt was one of the best juniors on the short track in Ontario and set several provincial records.

National and international

In 1999 Christine Nesbitt won the 3,000 meter competition with Ontario's short track relay at the Canada Winter Games , and in 2003 she achieved bronze in the same discipline. In 2003, Nesbitt switched from the short track to the longer speed skating distances and moved to Calgary for training . She was accepted into the Canadian national team and has competed in the World Cup of the International Skating Union since 2005 . In spring 2005 Christine Nesbitt won the Canadian "Rising Star Award" over the long haul.

Nesbitt took part over the distances of 1000 and 1500 meters and in the team pursuit at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . With a time of 1: 17.54 minutes she reached fourteenth place over the 1000 meters and seventh place over the 1500 meters with 1: 59.15.
