Location of Kushiro Sub-Prefecture

Kushiro ( Japanese 釧 路 総 合 振興 局 , Kushiro-sōgō-shinkō-kyoku ) is a sub- prefecture of Hokkaidō Prefecture . It has an area of ​​5,996.38 km² and a population of 271,196 (as of July 31, 2004).

history

The establishment of the sub-prefecture Kushiro ( 釧 路 支 庁 , Kushiro-shichō ) took place in November 1897. In August 1922, the name was changed to sub-prefecture Kushiro-no-kuni ( 釧 路 国 支 庁 , Kushiro no kuni shichō ). On October 20, 1948, Ashoro County was given to the Tokachi Sub-Prefecture . On April 1, 1957, it was renamed to Kushiro Sub-Prefecture.

When Hokkaidō was reorganized on April 1, 2010, the name was changed to Kushiro-sōgō-shinkō-kyoku .
