Iburi ( Japanese 胆 振 総 合 振興 局 , Iburi-sōgō-shinkō-kyoku ) is a sub- prefecture of Hokkaidō Prefecture . It has an area of ​​3,697 km² and a population of 432,578 (as of July 31, 2007).

history

The sub-prefecture was established in 1897 under the name Muroran sub-prefecture ( 室 蘭 支 庁 , Muroran-shichō ). In 1922 the name was changed to Iburi sub-prefecture ( 胆 振 支 庁 , Iburi-shichō ), the current name based on the Iburi province .

When Hokkaidō was reorganized on April 1, 2010, it was renamed Iburi-sōgō-shinkō-kyoku .
