As Kirchlispitzen the seven peaks of the will Kirchlispitzengruppe referred. They are located in the Rätikon , a mountain range in the western Central Alps and form a ridge running from west to east. The surveying points of the peaks form the state border between the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and the Swiss canton of Graubünden . They reach their highest point in the Third Kirchlispitze , the main summit, which is 2551 meters high according to Austrian data ( Federal Office for Metrology and Surveying ), but 2552 meters high according to Swiss data .

In the far west of the chain is the Erste Kirchlispitze , in the east, finally, the Seventh Kirchlispitze , the lowest, at 2350 meters. The south faces of the mountain range, which plunge up to 500 meters into the Grisons area, offer climbers worthwhile goals in the upper levels of difficulty up to extreme climbing in the UIAA IX- level of difficulty . These routes were first walked since the 1980s. According to literature, the first ascent of the Third Kirchlispitze took place on August 14, 1891, single-handedly by A. Ludwig from the Swiss Alpine Club .

Surroundings

At the Cavelljoch at 2239 meters above sea level, which forms the border to the Schesaplana group, the Kirchlispitzengruppe begins in the west with the first peak. The eastern end point, where the ridge merges into the Drusenfluh group , is the Swiss Gate, located at an altitude of 2137 meters. The seventh and lowest peak of the church rises here. The mountain range is about one and a half kilometers as the crow flies south of the Lünersee , 10 kilometers southwest of Vandans in the Montafon Valley and 6 km northeast of the Grisons municipality of Schuders .

Neighboring mountains in the west are the Kanzelköpfe and the 2964 meter high Schesaplana , the highest point of the Rätikon. In the east, separated by the Schweizertor and the Schweizereck , the Drusenfluh massif joins with a height of 2,827 meters. In the north are the Rossberg ( 2452  m ) and beyond the Rauhen Valley the 2437 meter high Zaluandakopf .

Bases and paths

The path of the first climber A. Ludwig in the years 1890 and 1891, with a total of four attempts, led from the Douglasshütte and the Verajöchle located northeast of the peak at an altitude of 2330 meters over the north flank to the summit. This is still the normal route today, which can be mastered in easy climbing (UIAA grade I) in a good 3 hours.

As a rule, however, the Kirchlispitzen are conquered by crossing a ridge from west to east. This route requires skills in exposed degrees of difficulty UIAA II to III in a total walking time of, according to literature, 6 to 8 hours. The bases here are the Douglasshütte at 1973 meters above sea level or the Schesaplanahütte ( 1908  m ). The south walls of the Kirchlispitzen offer numerous climbing routes in degrees of difficulty from UIAA III to IX- ( Hannibal's nightmare , silver vulture at the fourth Kirchlispitze or sorcerer's apprentice at the fifth peak).
