Sorachi Sub-Prefecture

Sorachi ( Japanese 空 知 総 合 振興 局 , Sorachi-sōgō-shinkō-kyoku ) is a sub- prefecture of Hokkaidō Prefecture . It has an area of ​​6,558.26 km² and a population of 373,736 (as of July 31, 2004).

history

The Sorachi Sub-Prefecture ( 空 知 支 庁 , Sorachi-shichō ) was established in 1897.

In 1899, the village of Furano - today's city of Furano and the district of Sorachi with Kamifurano , Nakafurano and Minamifurano - was added to the Kamikawa sub-prefecture .

When Hokkaidō was reorganized on April 1, 2010, it was renamed Sorachi-sōgō-shinkō-kyoku . The Horokanai community was added to the Kamikawa sub-prefecture.
