Aki Tonoike

Aki Tonoike ( Japanese 外 ノ 池 亜 希 , Tonoike Aki ; born March 3, 1979 in Tatsuno , Kamiina County , Nagano Prefecture ) is a Japanese speed skater . She is a specialist in short and medium-haul routes.

Aki Tonoike reached tenth place in the all-round junior world championships in Berlin in 1994 . Two years later the bronze medal followed in Calgary , and finally the title in Roseville in 1998 . In 1997 and 1998 she ran a total of four junior world records over 1000 and 1500 meters. She made her debut in the World Cup in early January 1997. By 2006, she won three individual World Cup races over 500 (1 ×) and 1000 meters (2 ×). In the 2000/01 season she was fourth, in the following season third in the overall World Cup on the 1000 meter distance. She became a Japanese master four times. Her best finish at the Olympic Games - she participated in the Games from 1998 to 2006 - was a seventh place on the 1000-meter course.
