Heike Lange

Heike Lange , married Heike Kahl (born October 31, 1955 in Rostock ), is a former German speed skater who was three times GDR champion . In 1976 she took part in the Winter Olympics for the German Democratic Republic and started for SC Dynamo Berlin .

Life

As a child in 1962 she played the lead role of Mariken in the DEFA children's film "Lütt Matten and the White Shell" . She attended the children's and youth sports school in East Berlin .

After ending her sports career in 1977, she studied at the Humboldt University in Berlin and received her doctorate in German studies in 1984. Until 1991 she worked as a research assistant at the Academy of the Arts of the GDR in Berlin and from 1991 to 1993 she worked as a school development planner at the Berlin Senate for Schools, Vocational Training and Sports. In 1994 she switched to the German Children's and Youth Foundation , where she works as managing director.

She is also involved in the Federal Association of German Foundations and was a member of the board of the Federal Association of German Foundations from 2002 to 2011. In 2013 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by Federal President Joachim Gauck .

Career

She won her first two GDR championship titles at the GDR speed skating championships in 1975 . She won the sprint all-around competition in front of her teammates Karin Kessow and Ute Dix . In front of her two teammates Monika Zernicek and Karin Kessow, she also secured the GDR championship title in the all-round competition. A year later, she secured her third and final championship title over the 500 meters ahead of Ines Bautzmann and Ute Dix. She also secured a silver medal and a bronze medal.

In 1976 she was nominated by the  National Olympic Committee of the GDR  for the  1976 Winter Olympics  in  Innsbruck  , where she started over the 500 meters and 1000 meters. While she took tenth place over the 500 meters, she secured eighth place over the 1000 meters.
