Monika Zernicek , married Monika Büttner (born October 18, 1954 in East Berlin ), is a former German speed skater who was once GDR champion . In 1976 she took part in the Winter Olympics for the German Democratic Republic and started for SC Dynamo Berlin .

Career

She won her first and only GDR championship title at the GDR speed skating championships in 1974 . In the sprint all-around competition, which was held in Karl-Marx-Stadt , she won ahead of Birgit Männel and Heike Lange . In addition, she secured at least five silver medals and one bronze medal at the GDR championships in speed skating. In 1976 she was nominated by the National Olympic Committee of the GDR for the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and started there over the 1000 meters. She finished this competition in 12th place.

She is married to the German wrestler and Olympic participant Harald Büttner .
