Smit had her first international success at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Moscow . There she won the bronze medal in the 2x500 m run. In addition, she was there tenth over 1500 m and fourth over 1000 m. She made her debut in the World Cup in December 2011 in Heerenveen , where she finished tenth and sixth in the B World Cup, each over 500 m. In the 2015/16 season she won her first World Cup victory in the team sprint in Heerenveen and also took third place in the team sprint there. At the individual distance world championships in Kolomna in 2016 , she came in 18th place in the 2x500 m run. In the 2018/19 season she won third place in the team sprint in Obihiro and her second World Cup victory in the team sprint in Tomakomai . At the end of December 2018, she became the Dutch 500m champion. At the individual distance world championships in Inzell in 2019 , she won the gold medal in the team sprint together with Johanna Letitia de Jong and Jutta Leerdam . In the 500 m run she finished 21st.
