Rolf Göran Claeson (born March 4, 1945 in Älvsjö ) is a former Swedish speed skater .

Claeson already competed in the Olympic Games over 1500 meters in 1968 , but only finished 20th there. Things went better a year later at the European championships in the all-around competition, where he at least won a bronze medal and at the world championships that followed in the same year he won a silver medal. In 1972 he won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games over 1500 meters. But initially he did not achieve an international title.

That changed when, after the 1971/72 season, the Dutch stars Ard Schenk and Kees Verkerk switched to the professional camp and the strong Norwegian Dag Fornæss ended his career. In 1973 he won both the European Championship and the World Championship in the all-around competition. In 1974 he was even able to defend the European title, and at the World Cup he won the bronze medal. In 1975 he could no longer defend his European title and only finished 11th, whereupon he ended his career that year.

In addition to his international successes, he was also able to win 25 different Swedish championships:

  • Swedish championships over 1,500 m: 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973, 1974 and 1975.
  • Swedish Championships 5,000 m: 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975.
  • Swedish Championships 10,000 m: 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974.
  • Swedish championships in all-around: 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975.

In 1973 Claeson was awarded the Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy .
