Location of Neu Staßfurt in Saxony-Anhalt

Neu Staßfurt lies in the fertile Magdeburg Börde . The place is about one kilometer northwest of Staßfurt and one kilometer east of Löderburg on the road 71 . In the west of the town there are several lakes that were created as a result of mining, such as the salt pond or the Laake . The place is mainly surrounded by areas of agricultural use and industry-related fillings. Around Neu Staßfurt are the places Lust in the north, Atzendorf in the northeast, Förderstedt in the east, Staßfurt in the south, Löderburg in the west and Athensleben in the northwest. Neu Staßfurt is strongly influenced by the industrial facilities, some of which are now idle.

history

The history of Neu Staßfurt is closely linked to salt mining , and to this day the district is mainly used as an industrial site. In 1873, the Agatheschacht was the first production shaft, followed in 1881 by the “Hammacher” shaft. In the following years, a chlorine-potassium, a sulphate, a chlorine-lime and a potash factory were established to process the materials obtained in the mining industry. At the end of the century, more shafts were added. With the decline of mining in 1944, the production of BMW engines began in the mine workings of shafts VI / VII, but the factory was destroyed after the Second World War. In 1963 the production of mining equipment began on the site of the former potash factory. A steel construction company settled on the site of the former Agatheschacht in 1959.

In 1969 Neu Staßfurt was spun off from the community of Löderburg and assigned to the city of Staßfurt. Three years later, the mining operations at the last producing shafts VI and VII were stopped. After the fall of the Wall , the companies were privatized.

Around 2002 the potash factory in Neu Staßfurt was stopped and at the same time a new potash factory was put into operation in Staßfurt, which was shut down only a few years later.
