History and geography

The place Brumby, laid out as Rundling / Ringdorf, was first mentioned in 1051. The first mention is in connection with the first church patron, the abbot of the Berge monastery, named Bernhardus. The first settlements in this area go back centuries.

Abundance of water and forests led to the first forms of settlement. Various settlements existed within this area, which are still known today as desert areas. The deserted areas still give the Feldmark their names today.

There is no clear evidence of the origin of the name. There are some interpretations of names. Brum = fountain and by = place, i.e. place of the fountain. Another interpretation of the origin of the place name is the noble family of the Lords of Brumby, whose first representative is Rudolfus de Brumbeie, mentioned in 1158. The current spelling can be proven to go back to the year 1470.

The location of Brumby is 75 meters above sea level. The highest point of Brumby is the Fuchsberg with almost 100 meters. The streets of Brumby are characterized by small height differences and run in the shape of a half ring. These rings are connected by cross streets. This type of construction is called a ring village or a pile village.

Spacious farmhouses and their courtyards characterize the town center. The public area design is generous and shows many lawns and a high population of trees. From all directions on the way to Brumby, the tower of St. Peter's Church and the Paltrockmühle can be seen in the distance. If the weather is favorable, the mountains of the Harz can be seen from them to the west.

The landscape is characterized by large areas of agricultural land. The remains of a low castle date from the 12th century, the ramparts of which have been converted into a park with an open-air stage.

On May 18, 2006, the municipality of Brumby was incorporated into Förderstedt , and on January 1, 2009, Förderstedt was incorporated into Staßfurt

Blazon : "In blue a leaping golden unicorn with a knocked out red tongue and split black hooves." It refers to the lineage of the Lords of Brumbeie, who lived in Brumby in 1209 and have long been extinct.

In the seventies of the 20th century, the coat of arms of the Lords of Brumbeie was declared the municipal coat of arms with a few changes (heraldic guidelines). The coat of arms was approved by the Magdeburg Regional Council on April 16, 1998 (OJ RB MD 6/98).

The St. Peter's Church in Brumby is a motorway church . It has an outstanding baroque interior. 92 panels tell the Christian doctrine of salvation from creation to the Last Judgment. The furnishings were planned and implemented in the 1660s by Pastor Heinrich Hävecker (* around 1610 in Minden ; † 1676 in Brumby), the father of the Calben theologian and chronicler Johann Heinrich Hävecker , under the patronage of Gebhard von Alvensleben . A street in Calbe was named after Johann Heinrich Hävecker after 1990.

At the moment, the colorful picture ceiling in the church is being restored at great expense through donations from residents and visitors.

Since 2018, the route of the L63 has been changed to a bypass in order to restrict the through traffic of the place. Since then there have been numerous accidents at the junction to Neugattersleben, some of which can be traced back to a faulty construction. For example, the intersection is very difficult to see when approaching.

There are further road connections to all surrounding villages and towns. There is a rail connection in Förderstedt (Magdeburg - Schönebeck (Elbe) - Güsten line ).
