Günther von Krosigk

Günther von Krosigk (born September 13, 1860 in Treptow an der Rega ; † June 16, 1938 in Brumby ) was a German admiral in the First World War .

Life

family

Günther was the eldest son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Rudolf von Krosigk (1817–1874) and his wife Antoinette, née von Krosigk (1821–1866). When his father died, Krosigk was not 14 years old.

On May 14, 1896, Krosigk married Marie, née von Veltheim (* 1875) in Destedt . Their sons, Rudolf (* 1897), Fritz (* 1901) and Günther (* 1904) entered military service or became farmers.

Military career

Krosigk joined the Imperial Navy in April 1877 . In 1905 he became head of department in the naval cabinet as captain at sea . From 1911 to 1912 he was the rear admiral chief of the East Asia Squadron . He then became director of the General Naval Department in the Reichsmarineamt . From April 1, 1914 to January 1, 1919, Krosigk was employed as chief of the North Sea naval station and as governor of the fortifications of the Reichskriegsport Wilhelmshaven . On March 22, 1915, he was promoted to admiral.

During the November Revolution, Krosigk negotiated with Bernhard Kuhnt , President of the Free State of Oldenburg , who was appointed by revolutionary forces . On January 8, 1919, Krosigk retired and spent his old age in Brumby near Calbe an der Saale.
