Imperial war ports , also naval stations , were German ports in which the warships of the German navy were equipped and maintained and where they were anchored.

The imperial war ports were equipped with all necessary facilities: docks , slipways , shipyards , etc. The imperial war ports were protected against attack by enemy forces with strong coastal fortifications and facilities for mine and other barriers.

The German Empire had two imperial war ports: Wilhelmshaven ( North Sea ) and Kiel ( Baltic Sea ). A vice admiral was in charge of command in each port as station chief. A port captain was subordinate to him to exercise the port police .
