The Orion colliery was a hard coal mine in the Witten district of Vormholz . The mine was a small mine , it was located on Waldegge Street. This small mine was owned by the Putz & Bruckner company.
Mining history
The mine was put into operation on January 16, 1956. In the same year, 23 miners extracted 4458 tons of hard coal . On February 15, 1957, the mine was closed. On August 1, 1958, the mine changed hands, with Karl Heinz Neef becoming the new owner. On the same day the mine was put back into operation and on December 31 of the same year the mine was taken out of service again. On July 15, 1959, the mine was put back into operation. This year, three miners extracted 553 tons of hard coal. On January 1, 1960, the mine was suspended . On February 1 of the same year, the mine changed hands again, with H. Rautenberg becoming the new owner. On May 15th of the same year the Orion colliery was finally shut down and on July 7th the operation was deregistered by miners.
