Vormholz (Witten)

Vormholz is a district in the Herbede district of Witten . It bears the district number 82 and on December 31, 2015 had a total of 3250 inhabitants.

history

Emergence

A farm in the area of ​​today's Vormholz can be found as early as 1220 . The resident farmer was called Große Heidtmann . The growth of the district from the 16th century is well documented. During this period, gave lords of Elverfeldt , as court gentlemen managed Herbede, the area for the settlement of other farms and Köttern free.

Mining

The mining changed the face of farming community in the 19th century prevail. In 1818 199 people lived in Vormholz, in 1889 there were over 1250. In Vormholz and the adjacent Muttental a whole series of small mines were built during this phase . The population of Vormholz increased mainly due to the settlement construction , over 90 percent of the residents of Vormholz were miners or their families. When the small mines died out at the end of the 19th century, many miners from Vormholz found work in other industries located in Herbede .

Incorporation

On April 1, 1926, Vormholz was incorporated into the Herbede community.

Vormholz today

Vormholz now serves primarily as a sleeping area . Various building plans in the vicinity of the district are not without controversy. Vormholz is surrounded by large meadows, partly also by thickly overgrown forests. Many residents fear that the charm of the district could be lost with new developments . A lot of the buildings provide input and two-family houses represent. Efforts of politics, a kind in Vormholz village to establish, have so far failed. Although there are a few small shops ( lottery , drinks market, etc.), since the collapse of the consumer cooperative KG Dortmund-Kassel eG in the mid-1990s, there is no longer a supermarket in Vormholz .

Touristically important is u. a. the Hardenstein castle ruins in the Vormholzer district with the surrounding Hardenstein nature reserve . Large parts of the Muttental mining trail are located in the Vormholz area.

District or district?

Until 1974 Vormholz was a district of the city of Herbede. On 1 January 1975. Herbede was in the city Witten incorporated . Today Vormholz is a district of Herbede. Entrance signs indicate Vormholz as a district ( Witten - Vormholz district ), but this does not change the actual status.

Sports

Vormholz's own sports club is SV Vormholz . Vormholz does have a sports hall , but football games take place on the facility in Durchholz . After a few years in the district league  B, the team is back in the district league C.
