from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 49th World Speed Skating Sprint Championship was held from March 3rd to 4th, 2018 in the Jilin Provincial Speed Skating Rink in the Chinese city of Changchun . Changchun hosted the Sprint World Championships for the first time.

competition

In the sprint world championship, four routes are run, twice each over a distance of 500 m and 1,000 m, two routes each on both days. If an athlete starts on the inside track over a distance on the first day, he starts on the outside track on the second day or vice versa. Only the 24 best women and men after three courses qualify for the fourth course.

The times achieved are converted into points. Over 500 m the elapsed time corresponds to the number of points, over 1,000 m results in the elapsed time in seconds divided by 2 the number of points. The athlete with the lowest total number of points after four routes wins the Sprint World Championship.
