from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 44th World Sprint Speed Skating Championships was on 26 and 27 January 2013, American Salt Lake City in Utah Olympic Oval discharged. Salt Lake City hosted the Sprint World Championship for the second time.

In the women's category, Heather Richardson from the USA won for the first time, ahead of last year's winner Yu Jing from China and Lee Sang-hwa from Korea.

In the men's category, Michel Mulder from the Netherlands won for the first time ahead of Pekka Koskela from Finland and his compatriot Hein Otterspeer .

competition

In the sprint world championship, four routes are run, twice each over a distance of 500 m and 1,000 m, two routes each on both days. If an athlete starts on the inside track over a distance on the first day, he starts on the outside track on the second day or vice versa. Only the 24 best women and men after three courses qualify for the fourth course.

The times achieved are converted into points. Over 500 m the elapsed time corresponds to the number of points, over 1,000 m results in the elapsed time in seconds divided by 2 the number of points. The athlete with the lowest total number of points after four routes wins the Sprint World Championship.
