Otterspeer made his debut in the Speed Skating World Cup at the beginning of the 2010/11 season in Heerenveen and finished second in the B World Cup over 500 m and 13th in the A World Cup over 1000 m. In the following season he came in the A-World Cup five times in the top ten, including second place over 500 m in Heerenveen. At the Dutch championships in 2012 he finished second in the sprint all-around event. In January 2012, he finished seventh at the World Sprint Championships in Calgary . At the end of the season he finished sixth over 1000 m at the 2012 World Single Distance Championships in Heerenveen. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he won the bronze medal and the silver medal over 1000 m in the sprint all-around and in the 2 × 500 m run at the Dutch championships. In the World Cup, he won his first World Cup victories over 1000 m in Nagano and Calgary. In addition, he took second and third place over this distance and at the end of the season he reached third place in the overall World Cup over 1000 m. He won the bronze medal at the 2013 Sprint World Championship in Salt Lake City . In the 2014/15 season he achieved ten top ten placements in the World Cup, including two third places over 1000 m and thus achieved seventh place in the overall World Cup over 1000 m. He was also the Dutch sprint all-around champion in January 2015. In February 2015 he took fifth place over 1000 m and fourth place in the 2 × 500 m run at the 2015 World Single Distance Championships in Heerenveen and won the silver medal at the 2015 World Sprint Championships in Astana . After two podium finishes in the B World Cup at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, he finished in the top ten three times in the individual races in the A World Cup. In the team sprint in Salt Lake City, he was third. In the 2017/18 season he achieved second place in the 500 m World Cup with two second and third places and one first place. At the European Championships in Kolomna in 2018 , he finished eighth over 1000 m.
