2016 World Speed Skating Sprint Championship
The 47th World Speed Skating Sprint Championship was held from February 27 to 28, 2016 at the Taereung Ice Rink in the South Korean city of Seoul . Seoul hosted the Sprint World Championships for the second time.
competition
In the sprint world championship, four routes are run, twice each over a distance of 500 m and 1,000 m, two routes each on both days. If an athlete starts on the inside track over a distance on the first day, he starts on the outside track on the second day or vice versa. Only the 24 best women and men after three courses qualify for the fourth course.
The times achieved are converted into points. Over 500 m the elapsed time corresponds to the number of points, over 1,000 m results in the elapsed time in seconds divided by 2 the number of points. The athlete with the lowest total number of points after four routes wins the Sprint World Championship.
