The Taereung Ice Rink ( kor. 태릉 국제 스케이트장 ) is a speed skating rink in the Nowon-gu district of Seoul , South Korea . The oval opened in 1969 as an open-air track. In 1988 the Junior World Championships in all-around competition took place here. Emi Tanaka from Japan and the East German Michael Spielmann became junior world champions here. On March 1st at the end of the 1995/96 season , the oval was closed in order to reopen as a speed skating arena in 2000.

The first international competition in the hall was the Sprint World Championship 2000 from February 26th to 27th. Champion Monique Garbrecht ( DDR ) and Jeremy Wotherspoon ( USA ). From March 12th to 14th, 2004, the individual distance world championships were held here. The former inline speed skater Chad Hedrick won his first championship title over 5000 meters.
