The Richmond Olympic Oval , and Richmond Oval is an ice rink in the Canadian city of Richmond , Province of British Columbia . In the hall about 15 kilometers from the center of Vancouver , u. a. the speed skating competitions of the 2010 Winter Olympics take place. Outside the hall is the Water Sky Garden designed by artist Janet Echelman .
history
The cornerstone of the Richmond Oval, which was designed by the architect Bob Johnston from Cannon Design, was laid on November 17, 2006. The hall with its external dimensions of approx. 200 by 114 meters is the largest cantilevered cedar hall in the world. The building was completed in December 2008 and the official opening took place on December 12, 2008.
After the Olympic Games, the hall was converted into a multifunctional arena, with the Olympic ice rinks being preserved for international competitions and being protected by a floor cover.
