The Gangneung Oval ( Korean 강릉 스피드 스케이팅 경기장) is an ice rink in the South Korean city ​​of Gangneung , Gangwon-do Province .

history

Located on the east coast of South Korea on the Sea of ​​Japan , the hall is approx. 60 km as the crow flies from Pyeongchang . She was the venue of the competitions in speed skating of the 2018 Winter Olympics . Curling , ice hockey , figure skating and short track competitions also took place in Gangneung .

Originally the hall was to be built in the Gangneung Science Park . Another location had to be found for reasons of space and resistance from the neighboring industry. The final location is near the Gangneung Ice Rink and Gangneung Hockey Center . The construction of the 126 billion KRW (about 97 million euro cost), began in September, 2013.

The hall has a 400-meter-long speed skating rink and space for 8,000 spectators. It opened in February 2017 with the World Speed ​​Skating Individual Distance Championships .
