The three-cushion European championship in 1960 was the 18th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 6 to 10 January 1960 in Düsseldorf . It was already the third three-cushion European championship in Germany after the Second World War and was organized by the Düsseldorf billiard friends in 1954 .

history

Once again, Antwerp's René Vingerhoedt was unbeatable . He secured his ninth and last European three-cushion title in Düsseldorf . He resigned after this European Championship and gave way to his successor Raymond Ceulemans . He became the Belgian national billiards coach. It was also the seventh and last silver medal at an EM for the eternal second August Tiedtke . With 0.992 he set a new German record in the general average (GD). The Dutchman Henny de Ruijter equalized in the game against Johann Scherz from Austria with 15 points the series European record of his compatriot Herman Popeijus from 1955. The Robert Schumann Hall, concert and congress hall of the city of Düsseldorf, was a worthy hall of this European championship and fully occupied every day. The final game was broadcast on a Eurovision broadcast by WDR and broadcast live in four European countries.

mode

The game was played in two preliminary round groups “everyone against everyone” to 60 points with an equal number of additional points . The groups consisted of five players each. The last two in the group were eliminated. The game points from the preliminary round were taken into the final round. The games against the eliminated players were not rated in the final table.
