The three-cushion European championship in 1959 was the 17th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 12 to 15 March 1959 in Hilversum in the province of North Holland .

history

Once again the Belgian René Vingerhoedt showed his superiority in three-cushion billiards in Europe. He won all of his games and was once again the only one to play a general average (GD) of over 1. The German August Tiedtke became vice European champion for the sixth time. Since it was the first time to play up to 60 points, he set the first European record for this game length with 1,428 (60 points in 42 recordings). He played this against the Austrian defending champion Johann Scherz . With 0.935 he also improved his own German record in the general average. August Tiedtke was once again the absolute darling of the public due to his spectacular style of play. The organizer received great praise from all participants for the tasteful equipment of the tournament venue, which was filled to the last place every day. With Søren Søgaard, a Scandinavian took part in a European championship for the first time. This event was reported live on March 13th during a Eurovision broadcast.

mode

The game was “everyone against everyone” to 60 points with an equal number of additional points .
