The three-cushion European championship in 1966 was the 24th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 8 to 11 December 1965 in Lisbon . It was the second three-cushion European championship in Lisbon after 1957.
history
The usual picture of the last few years was repeated in Lisbon. Raymond Ceulemans once again played in a league of its own at this European Championship. The difference in performance to the rest of the field was striking. All tournament records went back to his account. With 1.420 he set a new European record in the general average (GD). He also set the world and European records for the best individual average (BED) with 2.068 , which he set at the 1963 World Cup in Neuss . With very pleasant temperatures at this time of year, the games were played well into the night. Ceulemans had the misfortune of having to play his last game of the day three times at two o'clock in the morning. The last game of the tournament against the Austrian Johann Scherz in the overcrowded tournament hall and live broadcast on Portuguese TV unfortunately could not be followed by many interested parties in the hall. After four years of absence, the multiple German master August Tiedtke played again . But he rarely found his way to his creative game and in the end had to be satisfied with sixth place.
mode
The game was played in the system “everyone against everyone” to 60 points with additional push / equal intake .
