The three-cushion European championship in 1949 was the sixth tournament in this discipline of the carom and took place from 23 to 26 February 1949 for the second time after 1939 in Angoulême in France .

history

For the fourth time after 1935, 1939 and 1947 the Frenchman Alfred Lagache won the title of European champion, this would be his last. Twice previously he had achieved the record for the best general average (GD). This year he drew level with the new GD record of his compatriot Roger Hanun . This had set the highest level in the previous year at 1.219. The Belgian René Vingerhoedt finished the tournament for the second time as runner-up after 1947. The defending champion from Spain Joaquin Domingo took the ungrateful fourth place in the final ranking.

mode

The game was “everyone against everyone” to 50 points with an equal number of shots .

Oddities

Average is (not) everything! The Dutchman Bert Wevers was last of the tournament with a general average (GD) of 0.522. In the following year he was able to increase the GD by 62 thousandths and won with 0.584 and in 1951 he increased his GD by a further 9 thousandths to 0.593 and was… again last!
