The three-cushion European championship in 1999 was the 56th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from April 30th to May 2nd, 1999 in Porto . It was the fourth three-cushion European Championship in Portugal.

history

For the first time in the history of billiards, a Turk, Semih Saygıner , was able to win an international championship. The Turk dominated the entire tournament with only two set losses. The surprise players of the European Championship were the Dane Dion Nelin, who reached the final, and the Portuguese record champion Jorge Theriaga, who secured the bronze medal together with the Dutchman Dick Jaspers . For the German silver medalist at the last European Championship, Martin Horn, it was already the last sixteen. He had to admit defeat to defending champion Torbjörn Blomdahl with 0: 3 sets. The other two Germans Christian Rudolph and Stefan Galla disappointed with their first round defeats. The Austrian Andreas Efler ensured a positive performance . He made it to the quarter-finals and was able to take a set off the eventual European champions when he lost. No player could qualify for the quarter-finals for the outstanding three-band nation of the last few decades.

mode

The tournament was played with 32 participants. The entire tournament was played on three sets of 15 points each. Third place was no longer played out. There was a bronze medal for each of the losers in the semi-finals.
