The three-cushion European championship in 1954 was the eleventh tournament in this discipline of carom and took place from July 1st to 4th, 1954 in Mannheim .
history
For the first time the European Championship took place in Germany. The number of participants rose to nine for the first time since 1949. René Vingerhoedt recorded his fourth victory in a row . He won all his games again and again set new European Championship records in the general average and best individual average (BED). Only the top series was denied to him, it went to the French Albert Powell with eleven billiards in a row.
The third German runner-up this time was Walter Lütgehetmann and came from Frankfurt. Last year's runner-up, August Tiedtke from Düsseldorf, took fifth place in the final ranking. His lead over sixth-placed Powell was a tiny 0.00004 when there was a tie.
Two more records from the previous year were exceeded:
- A total of six players could play a BED over 1,000.
- The tournament average passed the 0.800 mark for the first time.
mode
The game was “everyone against everyone” to 50 points with an equal number of shots .
