The three-cushion European championship 2006 was the 63rd tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 10th to 14th May 2006 in Antalya . It was the third three-cushion European Championship in Turkey in four years.
history
According to the CEB statute, a European championship with 32 participants takes place. Nevertheless, the Israeli Shai Eisenberg was allowed to take part in this EM. But not all results were counted against him. In the end he finished 33rd and last place. Local hero Semih Saygıner was the favorite at the home European championships . In the group stage he also showed his class with the group win and an excellent GD of 2.571. But also the Belgian Frédéric Caudron showed strong form. Somewhat unexpectedly, the German champion Jens Eggers secured group victory in front of the strong Belgian Eddy Merckx . He failed only in the quarterfinals, in which all favorites prevailed, against Semih Saygıner. The two best players from this European Championship met in the final. Here Frédéric Caudron showed his fighting skills. After 2 sets deficit he was able to win the next three sets and became three-cushion European champion for the second time after 2002.
mode
The tournament was played with 32 participants. In the group games, two sets of 15 points were used to win. From the round of 16 onwards there were three sets of wins per game. Third place was no longer played out.
